"When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.” -Robert Frank

Katie Counts Photography takes a very laid back and simple approach to sessions. Katie pursues a very honest and genuine look to her photographic style. Think less posed and perfect, and more emotion and connection. True life. Honest, tender moments. There is definitely a time and place for those proper portraits, but Katie's gift is capturing family dynamic and love, and the essence of sweet childhood just as it is - sincere and unscripted.

"Katie doesn't just snap a picture of your family. She takes the time to find out your story and capture it for all time. She gets to know you, and with that knowledge she comes up with a way to put who you are into those photographs. I look at pictures she has taken of my children, and it isn't just their image that I see. She manages to capture their entire personality. She goes above and beyond to make sure that who they are shines through in her photographs; even if it means crawling around on the ground with a teddy bear on her head to make a toddler feel comfortable enough to come out of his shell. (She did this for us, and while she was pregnant to boot!) She understands how important what she is capturing is for you and your family. She puts her heart and soul into her work, and it shows with every single photograph she takes. We live 1,200 miles away from Katie now, and many people have suggested other photographers to us. Many people have tried to get our business. The problem is that they aren't really interested in my family, or telling our story. They are interested in how big a profit they can make or how big a package they can sell us. Their heart isn't in their work, and you can see it. I'd rather wait and get pictures done when we can be in Ohio to work with Katie than work with someone who will take a picture of my family, but doesn't really care about the people on the other side of the lens. I'd rather wait to have a photographer whose passion bleeds into her work than someone who can't even be bothered to remember your name. I can't imagine having anyone else as our family photographer, and I look forward to working with her every single time we get to see her.
She is more than our family photographer. She is family." --Holly Gordon

  • an afternoon at home with the sweet benefiel family

I got to spend some quiet time with Noah and Elle in their lovely home, and meet their precious new babe.

In-home lifestyle sessions are a wonderful and intimate way to tell your story. Tender, honest, real life moments are easily captured when families can be in the comfort of their own space. They're so honest and genuine.
